Event Review – “One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest” 50th Anniversary Party 9/16 Mississippi Studios

By oregonhistorian · On September 21, 2012

Oh what an evening was had by all at the “One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest” 50th Anniversary Party at Mississippi Studios! About 100 Ass Kickers braved the hot-ass Sunday evening to come to our show. Some pictures are posted on our Facebook Machine right here.

The Resident Historian – Doug Kenck-Crispin, introduced the show with a Britney Number, as he is want to do…

He then talked to the crowd about the setting of “Cuckoo’s Nest,” the Oregon State Hospital, and the case of the Poisoned Eggs. Our Investigative Team Covert Member was able to take some sneaky pics of the OSH Museum, which is not set to open for another few weeks, and he shared those ill begotten photos as wall.

1939 Ensemble than entertained the audience with an awesome set! I cannot think of a better band to have played the show! Thanks to them!

After Medication Time, dispensed by the Kick Ass and Nestucca Spit Emergency Response Teams (ie: Those Hottie Nurses), we listened to Matt Love tell us about the “Oregon-Ness” of the novel (which is missing form the fantastic film). Matt also gave away about 50 copies of the book. For free!!

There was a trivia contest, and folks won a VHS of the movie, an LP of the soundtrack and a shit ton of Matt’s newest book, “Sometimes a Great Movie.”

1939 did another fantastic set,

And then the 2010 Disturbed Ward Talent Show Runners Up entertained the crowd with their cover of “Crazy Train.” We are SO glad they were able to obtain a leave pass from the Nurses at the Oregon State Hospital!!

In addition, we featured some readings of the novel by our host, Mr. Andy Lindberg. Those, and others, are featured below. I encourage you to have a listen to them!

And, of course, you can listen to our two podcasts on the subject of the Oregon State Hospital, The Eggs, and The Cremains/Forced Sterilization.

AND FINALLY, The Museum of the Oregon State Hospital is having a GRAND OPENING in October, 2012. Here is the flyer below:

Thanks to everyone who came to our show! I also want to send a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone at Mississippi Studios! And if you missed it, we have another coming up VERY soon! It’s about the dude, who jumped out of the thingy with all that stuff…
