October 2018
Armory Time Capsule Open House
DKC and ADL have been working with Portland Center Stage to help interpret their relationship with time capsules - and what a historic relationship it is! We have designed a series of interpretive displays - documenting the 50 year ago removal and contents of the original Armory time capsule (pictured), and some about the time capsule that still resides in the Armory Annex! For October's First Thursday (10/4/2018), DKC will present a brief talk about how the project came to be, researching about Portland area time capsules, and walk you through the process of interpreting the history. His presentation will start at about 6:00pm. Afterwards, he will be available to take you around the displays - showing them to you, and answering any questions you might have. More details on the evening right HERE. We hope you can join us! You can find out more about the Time Capsule at the Armory/Armory Annex HERE.

Battleship Oregon in Forest Grove
120 years ago this year, this ship became famous for its unprecedented 15,737 mi. cruise from San Francisco, through the Strait of Magellan at the bottom of South America, and then up to the coast of Florida in just 66 days. The Oregon then fought in the Spanish-American War in Cuba and earned the title “Bulldog of the Navy.” In the 1920s, Oregon schoolchildren pitched in dimes to purchase the Oregon for a museum of the aged conflict. But with the arrival of World War Two, the battleship was sold for scrap metal, and was nearly drafted as a South Pacific garbage scow. Come hear Resident Historian Doug Kenck-Crispin tell the story of this amazing ship which has always been associated with the pride of the Beaver State! Lots of illustrative photos of the ship to see and even a film clip from 1898.
