Phrenic’s One Year Anniversary Party & A Look at Building Storyworlds

April 30, 2014 @ 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM
Mission Theater, 1624 NW Glisan St
Portland, OR 97209 United States

The Resident Historian will have an opportunity to discuss story telling and fan created content at Phrenic's One Year Anniversary Party! From the Phrenic Webiste: One year ago, Phrenic launched in the App Store and became the first iOS thriller that users could watch, read and play. This Portland produced story is told using episodes, mobile games, choose-your-own-adventure stories, social media fiction and more. Most people don’t need to think about transmedia–they already experience it through Star Wars characters or Marvel superheroes that crossover into different movies, comics, games and books. But as audience expectations change, independent storytellers now need to consider how their creative work can expand to all of the mediums and devices where people discover entertainment. It’s not just telling a story, it’s building a storyworld. Phrenic’s one year anniversary party will show how this indie iOS thriller came to life and how its flexible storyline allows it to expand anywhere. The event will also highlight a few Oregonians involved in innovative storytelling. This will be an interactive event that includes: Free Giveaway: Phrenic trading cards for the first 100 attendees Theatrical performance by a character from Phrenic #GoCloneYourself: Anyone can submit a clone confessional video that will be shown…

A Pictorial History of Oregon: Glass Lantern Slides from the Oregon Historical Society

July 1, 2014 @ 8:00 PM - 9:30 PM
Portland Institute of Contemporary Art (PICA), 415 SW 10th Ave
Portland, United States
+ Google Map

PICA, in conjunction with the Oregon Historical Society Research Library, is pleased to present a pictorial history of the great state of Oregon – from James Cook’s early coastal forays in 1778 up until and including the construction of the St. Johns Bridge in 1931. Comprised of approximately 92 glass lantern slides, this show was originally put together as an educational program by the Colonial Dames of America in approximately 1935. With the assistance of Doug Kenck-Crispin (Kick Ass Oregon History) Matthew Cowan will project the images using a Victor Stereopticon slide projector (circa 1915) and use the original text and notations to narrate the slides. This is the first public program of None of Your Funeral, a 2014 Resource Room Residency at PICA. These programs hope to explore both personal and shared histories through public exhibition of original materials.
