Revolution: DB Cooper
"the system that beats the system" Revolution: DB Cooper is the exploration of the themes of counter-culture actions found in the DB Cooper caper, explorations conducted beyond a speaking of historical words. Ransom notes cobbled from Playboy magazines, clues in film and grooves from vinyl might be used to help shed light to this 43 year old case. Or might not in the least, either. Point being, it's a goddamned good excuse to have a party. Like we do. The evening will be divided up into three sections; "The $200,000 is for the revolution!" Resident Historian Doug Kenck-Crispin will examine the themes of revolution, beating the system, and even Cascadia in his presentation. Examining the few shreds of evidence known in this case, we will interpret the hijacker and correspondence after the crime that point to consistent themes of revolutionary actions. D.B. Cooper at the Movies Take a hypothetical (and completely unsubstantiated) tour through the movies that D.B. Cooper may have watched in 1971 to psych himself up for the heist of the century. Was he trying to get The Man's foot out of his ass, like Melvin Van Peebles in Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song?…

Portland on the Take co-author JB Fisher will present the lore of the Neahkahnie horde with a focus on treasure hunter Tony Moreno aka Ed Fire and a surprising Goonies link. Geek out with film professor Jeff Jaeckle as he leads you on a drunken treasure hunt for the in-jokes, sexual innuendos, and random trivia of The Goonies. Drink alcohol and win prizes, with extra points for those wearing suspenders and tri-corner hats! And Doug Kenck-Crispin will share some of his favorite Portland Treasure Tales, and give you a copy of a REAL LIVE TREASURE MAP!, and really dig into the lore, documentation and analysis behind said map (let's just cut to the chase and call it a Treasure Trail). He will present absolutely nothing about The Goonies. At the end of the program, we will also be showing a classic Oregon cinematic gem. AND one lucky trivia winner will be walking away with a pretty sweet acknowledgment of their mastery of…

KAOH’s Podcast Release Party! “Policing in Oregon.”
On September 11th, 2016, Kick Ass Oregon History will host the release party for their new podcast series, "Policing in Oregon." The event will start a 7:00pm (doors at 6:30) at Turn! Turn! Turn! (8 NE Killingsworth St, Portland). The cover charge is $5. "Policing in Oregon" is a series of podcasts that examines how Oregonians have historically been policed, and how we want to be policed in the future. As we look at policing actions in the past, we also seek interpretation from current experts and observers of those events. Interviews were conducted with Mayor Hales, former PPB Chief Derrick Foxworth, a slew of current and former law enforcers, journalists and historians. Some of whom will join us for the evening! JD Chandler will discuss the early issues of self government and policing in Portland from the City Marshals through the founding of the Police Department in 1870. JB Fisher will chat about this specific date (9/11), Kenton, the Multnomah County Sheriff's office and the 1955 bribe that shook Portland. KAOH's Doug Kenck-Crispin will tell the tale of Charles Moose - Portland's first black police chief and his program to use the bureau to gentrify North and Northeast Portland.…

***EDIT! Our November 2017 viewing at the Hollywood theater in Portland had some great press, including KATU, KPTV 12, and one of the selected events of the week from the Portland Mercury! Come join us at the Hollywood Theater for a big screen viewing of "Paint Your Wagon!" KAOH is assisting Oregon Film in getting the word out, and we'll have a podcast about the movie around November 10th. Proceeds from the ticket sales will go to the Baker Heritage Museum - and they'll be bringing ephemera from the film to the Hollywood screening, and maybe even Lee Marvin's pants! Beaver Tales and Treasure Trails – Cannon Beach!
Please join the Resident Historian, Doug Kenck-Crispin for this (potentially) enriching discussion of still undiscovered Oregon treasure hordes. On September 11th, 2022 at 11:00am, in faaaancy Cannon Beach!, DKC will present Beaver Tales and Treasure Trails, an examination of three major threads in this vein. The first will be a discussion of the Beeswax shipwreck legends, the latest deveoplments of the Santo Cristo de Burgos investigation, and the aged treasure yarns associated with this Nahalem wreck. Doug will then move onto the topic of Beaver Money (or Golden Beavers), and the currious currency created by Oregon, before she became a state, said to comprise a considerable collection of these concealed caches! And finally, he will reacquaint the audience with the Portland Treasure Chart; a map to a hidden Civil War gold horde buried in a grave in the city of Portland. Maybe. Author/Historian JB Fisher and DKC have been visitng a few cemetaries just “too miles fromrom Portland,” so there’s some new shit that has come to light to share with you!
