Revolution: DB Cooper

“the system that beats the system”

Revolution: DB Cooper is the exploration of the themes of counter-culture actions found in the DB Cooper caper, explorations conducted beyond a speaking of historical words. Ransom notes cobbled from Playboy magazines, clues in film and grooves from vinyl might be used to help shed light to this 43 year old case. Or might not in the least, either. Point being, it’s a goddamned good excuse to have a party. Like we do. The evening will be divided up into three sections;

“The $200,000 is for the revolution!”
Resident Historian Doug Kenck-Crispin will examine the themes of revolution, beating the system, and even Cascadia in his presentation. Examining the few shreds of evidence known in this case, we will interpret the hijacker and correspondence after the crime that point to consistent themes of revolutionary actions.

D.B. Cooper at the Movies

Take a hypothetical (and completely unsubstantiated) tour through the movies that D.B. Cooper may have watched in 1971 to psych himself up for the heist of the century. Was he trying to get The Man’s foot out of his ass, like Melvin Van Peebles in Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song? Did he consider himself an international criminal mastermind like those in The French Connection? Or was he simply Bananas like Woody Allen? Join film scholar Jeff Jaeckle as he delves into these and other random questions while you drink beer.

Historical Interpretation. Through Vinyl.
While most of their record collection is dedicated to classic soul, DJs Hern Pong and Tommy Gunn have been digging through crates of crates to reconstruct possible radio sets from 1971. Cascadia Soul Alliance will be putting on their best drinking caps to sonically place you back in a time when AM was king, and 8-tracks were not a website but rather tangible objects. In doing so they are doing their part in attempting to help get inside the head of a person many fellow Cascadians desire to identify with. By reading way too much into the lyrics they hope to share one aspect of one of our greatest heroes.

Raffle!! We’re going to raffle off everything you need to make some “DB Coopers” (a bottle of bourbon and some 7-Up) as well as a classic Playboy magazine associated with the caper.

AND we’ll have some DB Cooper movies along if folks want to watch those.

Note: Turn! Turn! Turn! only serves Beer and Wine.

Turn! Turn! Turn! is a very small venue. There are 40 chairs, so we are selling GUARANTEED seats through advance sales (scroll down). There will be standing room too. Advance ticket and door price are the same ($6), but Eventbrite does charge a small service fee for the advance tix.
