Fall Walking Tours – Including Erickson’s Saloon!

By oregonhistorian · On September 22, 2015

Hey there Ass Kickers! Time for some Fall Walking Tours!

Fall is a great time to head out in our beautiful city! The tourists have all gone back to Frisco and Brooklyn and Akron, it’s not so goddamned hot, and the water is often falling from the sky! Besides – your folks come to town to visit, or your hipster cousin, and you’re looking for something to do with them besides stand in line for those fucking doughnuts. How about a little edu-tainment? We’ll take care of the programming for a few hours!

We’re very excited to announce that Innovative Housing is down with us giving tours of the Erickson Building! This was the location of August Erickson’s fabled 684 foot bar, which has now been remodeled into affordable housing units. Resident Historian Doug Kenck-Crispin worked on the public art project inside the building, and he will be leading the tour – telling you about the history of the storied establishment, and how the art tells that story, but also the mythology of the most famous bar in the world. Oh – and you’ll get to see the piss trough too! (but you can’t pee in it…) The Erickson’s Saloon Walking Tour is only $12.50! Each tour will be limited to just 15 attendees. The dates are October 3rd and NOVEMBER 21ST, 2PM. We will meet at the parking lot just north of Oregon Leather at NW 2nd and Davis (the SW corner of the intersection).

And of course, we will be running our monthly Portland Sinful Walking Tour: Shanghaiers, Saloons & Skullduggery (hosted by our friends at PDX Pipeline). This is a classic walking tour where we head around Old Town, talking about the true , and less than true tales of the Rose City’s Past. “Portland’s Naughty Bits,” as we like to call it! Tickets are just $15, and we have tours on Halloween, November 1st, and THE SATURDAY AFTER THANKSGIVING, 11/28. Details in the links.

If you don’t catch any Oregon History this Fall, well, you just aren’t trying!

***Sorry – due to a death in the family, the 12/19 tour has been canceled.
