Not news to YOU, but… Dioramas pretty much Kick Ass! Those awesome little cardboard boxes detailed with globs of glue and faded construction paper that make history just jump to life! And do you know what kinds of Dioramas Kick the most Ass? Why ones about the History of Oregon, of course!!
This is our Fourth Kick Ass Oregon History Diorama Contest! Last year we received a bit of press about the event, and we are expecting this year’s contest to be filled with awesome projects as well!
As we related in the 2012 contest:
You made them in Mrs. Dingleberry’s 5th grade American History class. You saw them at that Crappy County Historical Society your Dad drug you to on that one summer road trip. And you envied Suzie Snotgrass’s winning science faire entry of Tranquility Base.
NOW Vengeance can be yours, Dear Ass Kicker! www.orhstory.com is announcing our Kick Ass Oregon History Diorama Contest!!!
So here is how we get down: make a diorama depicting a Kick Ass Oregon Historical event. Take some pictures. Email them to us [oregonhistorian@gmail.com] by February 10th. We will put the photos of the dioramas on our Facebook page. Then we will announce the winner at our February 14th History Night show at The Merry Time Bar (995 Marine Drive, Astoria). Bask in fame and glory and gain a whole gang of fourth graders who HATE YOU and to whom you can constantly sing-song “my diorama was better than yours” each and every-time you see them at Freddies. Oh – AAANNDD win some prizes!!
Dioramas will be judged on 4 categories, each worth 10 points (40 points total)
1) Kick Ass-ness
2) Oregon Historical Significance
3) Originality
4) Ass Kicken-ness!
AND – Earn a BONUS 5 Points by bringing your diorama to the Merry Time show on February 14th at 7:30pm! (Remember – you do NOT have to be present in Astoria to win)
Our panel of Celebrity Judges shall cast your fate! They will judge you, oh yes – they will judge you…
The top prize? 2 Complimentary Guest Passes to an upcoming Kick Ass Oregon History Tour!!! In addition, the diorama at the Merry Time Bar with the highest points will be awarded a prize too – a clear bottle with some brown liquid in it! (so theoretically, it is possible to win TWO prizes).
SO get to cutting and gluing! And email those pics to oregonhistorian@gmail.com
Dioramas Kick Ass!!! (And *pssst!* Darcy is not invited this year…)
