The geeked-out history folks that bring you Kick Ass Oregon History are proud to announce www.orhistory.com’s DB Cooper Nite! The event will be held at Mississippi Studios (3939N. Mississippi, Portland, OR) on Sunday November 20th at 7:30pm.
DB Cooper Nite will (honor? celebrate? recognise? condemn?) note the 40th anniversary of the only unsolved skyjacking in United States Aviation History. On November 24, 1971, a man in a dark suit and sunglasses hijacked a big ol’ jet airliner leaving Portland, drank a few bourbon and 7s, chain smoked some Raleigh cigarettes, obtained $200,000 in twenty dollar bills, and parachuted out of the rear of the plane at 10,000 feet… never to be heard from again. Rock and Roll!
DB Cooper Nite is going to be a fun packed evening of Rock and History. Historians Katy Barber, Matt Love, twitter legend @ancientportland and orhistory.com’s resident historian Doug Kenck-Crispin will take the stage, setting the scene of one of the Pacific Northwest’s most memorable and iconic crimes. The musical talents of Jarad Miles and Oh Darling will swoon attendees and provide a festive mood for you to get your drink on (cause there’s gonna be DB Cooper drink specials!). All for a measly $5 cover charge! And who knows? Maybe Mr. Cooper himself will drop on in.
Oh but wait! There is, indeed, more! A Kick Ass Raffle will take place.Dave Knows Portland has donated some T-shirts. John Helmer, who sold DB Cooper themed shirts in 1971 has donated a fashionable, skinny black tie. Portland Luggage has offered a black attache case, and Jennifer Wells Design Studios has created a DB Cooper themed fused glass platter for one lucky winner! And hopefully more prizes will follow.
Did I mention that orhistory.com is going to be selling extremely reasonably priced, and extremely limited number of DB Cooper Nite T-shirts? Oh hells yes…
AND… In support of this extraordinary, once every fourty years event, Kick Ass Oregon History will feature TWO podcasts on the DB Cooper story. Episode 1 will appear on 11/1, and Episode 2 will appear on 11/15. You will NOT want to miss our own pecular take on this Oregon Legend.
So make SURE to join us on November 20th, 2011 at Mississippi Studios for DB Cooper Nite. Cause what the hell else you got going on on a Sunday Night? For real though…
DB Cooper Nite is co-sponsored by Dave Knows Portland, Lost Oregon and Jennifer Wells Design Glass Studio.
