Resident Historian Doug Kenck-Crispin will be presenting at the Labor Temple Bar about the battleship USS Oregon on May 5th, 2018 at 7:00pm. The event is FREE!. 120 years ago this May, this ship became famous for its unprecedented 15,737 mi. cruise from San Francisco, through the Strait of Magellan at the bottom of South America, and then up to the coast of Florida in just 66 days. Sometimes a Great Notion at the Hollywood Theater
This powerful #OregonMade film is often overlooked and just as often loved by those who see it. Paul Newman stars and directs based on Ken Kesey’s book alongside Henry Fonda, Lee Remick, and Michael Sarrazin. The film was shot in and around Kernville and Newport, and the “Never Give a Inch” Stamper House still stands on the shore of the Siletz River. As part of the celebration, not only will Kick Ass Oregon History be doing a special podcast about the unique history behind the making of the film, but Oregon Film and Oregon State Parks will be planting 50 trees and the first official sign for an “Oregon Film Trail” at nearby Gleneden State Park. We will be screening a 35mm print - not to be missed! TICKETS HERE.

Armory Time Capsule Open House
DKC and ADL have been working with Portland Center Stage to help interpret their relationship with time capsules - and what a historic relationship it is! We have designed a series of interpretive displays - documenting the 50 year ago removal and contents of the original Armory time capsule (pictured), and some about the time capsule that still resides in the Armory Annex! For October's First Thursday (10/4/2018), DKC will present a brief talk about how the project came to be, researching about Portland area time capsules, and walk you through the process of interpreting the history. His presentation will start at about 6:00pm. Afterwards, he will be available to take you around the displays - showing them to you, and answering any questions you might have. More details on the evening right HERE. We hope you can join us! You can find out more about the Time Capsule at the Armory/Armory Annex HERE.
